What is Smarkets?

Browse live matches, upcoming fixtures, horse racing, politics and selected broader event questions in Smarkets’ exchange interface. Search and categories lead to the available outcomes; compare prices and size and read each market’s settlement conditions. Profit Hub provides a performance-oriented workspace, and separate API documentation supports developer integration.

The commission base matters as much as the rate. Standard charges net profit per market, while qualifying Pro and Select accounts use a per-settled-bet basis that can charge losses as well as profits. Check account statistics and the applicable tier rather than applying Standard to high activity. Location determines the products available to an account, and a public page without an executable quote is not an offer at a zero price.

Market participation workflows

Compare an event

Match the competition, participants and settlement rule before comparing prices with another venue.

Calculate the applicable net value

Check the account tier first. Under Standard, apply commission to net market winnings; Pro and Select use the distinct per-bet basis described in pricing.

Monitor an in-play market

Track suspensions and available liquidity as the event develops.

Pricing and total cost

Check the account statistics page to identify the applicable commission tier. Standard takes 2% of net profit in a market. Qualifying activity above 1,500 bets or £1,000,000 staked in a calendar month brings Pro's 1% charge per settled matched bet. Accounts above £25,000 net profit in the previous 12 calendar months face Select's 3% on the same per-bet basis. For Pro and Select, that basis is the bet's profit on a win or its loss on a loss, rather than netting the market.

Access and participation

  1. Find an event through search or categories.
  2. Read its market-specific settlement rules.
  3. Complete account and location eligibility requirements.
  4. Check the commission tier for the account.
  5. Inspect available prices and size.
  6. Track working orders and final market-level results.

Account location determines which Smarkets products are available.

What to check

  • Available products depend on account location.
  • A missing executable quote is not a tradable zero price.
  • High-activity tiers have a different fee basis from Standard.
  • In-play availability and settlement treatment vary by event.

Our take on Smarkets

Smarkets supplies an exchange interface with published commission categories, making costs open to comparison. A useful assessment must identify the account's actual tier and location: higher activity can change what is charged, not merely the percentage, and public browsing does not establish account access.
