# Whalefax: trace Polymarket results back to fills

Whalefax examines how a Polymarket performance number is built. Start with a username or CSV, inspect matched trades and settled positions, and export transaction rows for further performance or accounting review.

## What is Whalefax?

CSV processing is described as local to the browser. Common column detection and cents-versus-dollars normalization help prepare the data, but timestamps, sides, prices and outcome quantities still need checking against the original export. Public lookup and the whale leaderboard are separate access paths.

FIFO matches exits against earlier entries to reconstruct realized results, including losing contracts settled at 0. This method can differ from another dashboard or the method used in personal accounts; missing fills or transfers can change cost basis.

### Who it is for

- Traders reconciling fills with displayed PnL.
- Researchers comparing public-wallet records.
- Users preparing structured transaction exports for review.

## Metrics and coverage

- **CSV import and unit checks**

Detect common export columns and convert cent-denominated prices where detected, while preserving the need to verify the mapping.

- **Username lookup and public ranking**

Research a Polymarket username or browse the whale leaderboard without importing a personal file. The ranking is not the personal CSV dataset.

- **FIFO and settlement coverage**

Match exits to earlier entries and include losing contracts settled at 0 in realized performance.

- **Charts and fees**

Review cumulative and monthly results and examine trading costs alongside gross outcomes and open positions.

- **Accounting-shaped exports**

Export transaction rows, including a Form 8949-style layout, for further review rather than treating the format alone as validation.

## Analysis workflows

### Reconcile an export

Import the CSV, verify columns and price units and compare several matched trades with the original records.

### Audit a win rate

Include settled losers and distinguish realized results from marks on open positions.

### Prepare rows for accounting

Review matching and reconstructed cost basis before passing the export into the intended accounting workflow.

## Pricing and total cost

Public analysis and the leaderboard are accessible without a listed subscription. The public interface does not show a separate paid-plan table.

## Data inputs and access

1. Choose CSV analysis or public username lookup.
2. For CSV, verify timestamp, side, price and outcome-quantity columns and whether prices are cents or dollars.
3. Inspect sample matched fills and settlements against the originals.
4. Review fees and open positions separately.
5. Export the rows needed for further analysis.

## Useful links

### What to check

- Missing fills or transfers can change reconstructed cost basis.
- An accounting-shaped export still requires review of underlying rows.
- The public leaderboard and a personal CSV import are different datasets.
- Unit and column detection need verification before interpreting results.

### Our take on Whalefax

Unit normalization, FIFO matching and exportable rows make performance reconstruction inspectable. Input completeness and the chosen matching method can still differ from venue displays or actual records, so charts and export formats need row-level review.
